It’s good to
get outside help.
I’m Jill Moorhead, a communications strategist and fractional CMO for Ohio businesses, firms, and mission-driven organizations. Big Trek Works is me, plus a bench of researchers, designers, developers, editors, and photographers I bring in project by project.
“IN A WORLD THAT CRAVES AUTHENTICITY, JILL HAS THE RARE ABILITY TO CRAFT AUTHENTIC STORIES WHILE DEVELOPING STRATEGIES AND EXPERIENCES THAT DRIVE ENGAGEMENT.”
— Chris Mundell, Vice President for Institutional Engagement

Advocacy, statewide
CreativeOhio
I worked with Sarah Sisser to develop content that would educate CreativeOhio’s members and the wider community and give them ways to get involved. That meant shaping ideas into clear, readable stories and adding a marketing perspective through specific calls to action. Our three-year partnership also included media releases, Advocacy Leadership Institute communications, and online logistics for the annual CreativeOhio Champion Advocacy Awards. Together, we solidified an email marketing strategy Sarah continues to use today.

Weiland’s Market
Weiland’s wanted to reach new customers while staying connected to its longtime shoppers. I led the work with a researcher and videographer, beginning with customer and staff interviews to understand what people valued about the store. I used those findings to build a social media strategy and trained the staff to put it into practice. Over several years, I worked alongside the team to support that work. They now handle email, social media, and event marketing on their own.
Website strategy and design
McConnell Arts Center
McConnell Arts Center needed a website that made its classes, performances, exhibitions, and ways to get involved easier to find. I led conversations with each department to understand its priorities, then shaped the site’s structure and content around the people using it. I brought in a website designer to create a custom site based on that work. The site launched in June 2025, and staff now publish classes and events themselves, giving the MAC a practical way to keep its website current.

Advocacy writing
Storytelling with Purpose
Struggling to make your case to decision-makers? Give your board members, staff, and advocates the words to explain what’s at stake and ask for action.
I turn data and the experiences of people affected into clear advocacy messages your team can use in meetings, testimony, emails, and conversations with decision-makers. The numbers show the scale of the issue; people’s stories show what it means in their lives.
Each message I write answers five questions: Who is affected? How many people, and where? How serious is the problem? What’s driving it? What needs to happen next?

How I work
Panoramic vision & expertise
I’ve worked across retail, media, the arts, higher education, and nonprofits. I bring a business mindset to nonprofit work, a community focus to business, and ideas from one field into another.
Packed & prepared for the big trek
We agree on the work, the timing, and what we need from each other. I keep you informed as we go, so you know where things stand and what happens next.
Innovative solutions
that work
I develop strategies that build authentic engagement with the people you need to reach. Then I help put them into practice, in ways that fit your goals, your team, and the resources you have.
Community
at every opportunity
I listen to your team and the people you need to reach. My own work as a writer, volunteer, and board member brings a community perspective to those conversations.
